Biofilms 11 Support Grant – Apply by 23 April 2025

We are pleased to offer a Biofilms 11 support grant for scientists from our Welsh NBIC research partners, including Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Swansea University, Aberystwyth University, and Bangor University. The grant is also open to technical staff from any NBIC research partner. 

The Biofilms 11 conference will take place from 13-15 May 2025 in Cardiff and will bring together leading experts from diverse disciplines to push the boundaries of knowledge and application in biofilm science. 

The purpose of this grant is to foster knowledge exchange, create networking opportunities, and promote professional development within the wider biofilms community. 

The application deadline is 23:59 on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

Eligibility

  • Open to scientists from our Welsh NBIC research partners: Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Swansea University, Aberystwyth University, Bangor Universityfocusing on researchers at an early stage in their career, PhD students, and those without independent funding. 
  • AND: Open to technical staff from any NBIC research partner.

 

Grant Details and Financial Support

  • The grant provides full or partial financial support, with a maximum award of £2,500. We will be able to offer 10-20 supporting grants.
  • Intended to assist with or cover essential expenses such as travel, accommodation and childcare or carer costs for Biofilms 11.
  • All expenses should comply with this policy.
  • Applicants should be prepared to contribute or secure additional funding, as the grant may not cover all expenses.

 

Application Requirements

  • Proposal (250 words max) explaining the expected benefits of attending Biofilms 11.
  • Detailed budget breakdown with justifications for each expense. 
  • Applicants must submit proof of event acceptance and their participation details with their application. 
  • Applicants must provide a supporting letter from a supervisor or department head stating the relevance financial need for support. 

 

Selection Criteria

  • Relevance of the event to the applicant’s career development and contributions to their scientific field. 
  • Quality and impact of the applicant’s participation in the event. 
  • Evaluation of financial need and justification for the support requested. 

 

Budgeting and Justification

  • Detailed budget required, excluding travel insurance costs. 
  • Description of how applicants plan to fund the remaining costs, including personal funds, institutional support, or other scholarships.

 

Post-Event Requirements

  • Acknowledge NBIC’s support in all conference presentations and materials, where applicable.  
  • Claim form, all relevant receipts and certificate/proof of attendance must be submitted within six weeks of the event. 
  • Submission of a comprehensive report and photographs, detailing experiences and learning, should be included with your claim document within six weeks after the event. 

 

Application Process

The final deadline for Biofilms 11 travel grant applications is 23:59 on 23 April 2025.

We will let the applicants know the outcome of their application by the 24 April 2025 at the latest.
