Technical visit to BEWISe, Europe’s leading state of the art Wastewater Facility and Northern Area Innovation Awards
The Institute of Water Northern Area Committee in collaboration with Newcastle University, is delighted to announce an in-person technical visit to the award-winning Biological Engineering: Wastewater Innovation at Scale (BEWISe) facility at Birtley, near Gateshead, on 26 May 2022, from 10:00 – 13:00.
BEWISe is Europe’s largest wastewater treatment research facility, which is available to both academia and the water industry, to make innovations in wastewater treatment a reality for the water sector.
It aims to host researchers from around the world to help speed up the translation and uptake of innovations by the water sector. Innovation is achieved by accelerating the transition from existing energy-intensive treatment processes to low carbon alternatives with lower running costs.
In this event, you will have the exclusive opportunity to visit and tour the facility in person and interact with Newcastle University academics leading groundbreaking research on wastewater treatment and resource recovery to bring the sector closer to Net-Zero.
The £1.2 million EPSRC-funded BEWISe plant is the largest facility of its type in Europe. Newcastle University and Northumbrian Water have contributed a further £0.5 million to its value.
If you are interested in having a close look at the technologies that can revolutionise wastewater treatment, then this event is for you.
A short video tour of the facility can be found here, but nothing beats an in person visit. Book soon as due to capacity there are limited spaces available.
Following the BEWISe visit, attendees are welcome to take part in the Innovation Awards (14:00-16:00). Lunch and transport to the facility is provided.
