b'Regional EventsEDINBURGH BIOFILM SEMINAR SERIESA biofilm seminar series, focusing on the interdisciplinary science of aggregated microbial communities and biofilms, launched at the University of Edinburgh in 2023. On 29 February 2024, Gordon Ramage, Professor of Infection Prevention and Control from Glasgow Caledonian University, gave a talk about about managing and manipulating complex biofilm infections. On 25 April 2024, Ross Fitzgerald, Professor and Personal Chair of Molecular Bacteriology at the Roslin Institute (University of Edinburgh), gave a talk on Staphylococcus aureus and its adaptation to the dairy niche including enhanced growth and biofilm formation in milk. On 30 May 2024, Sarah Coulthurst, Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the University of Dundee, spoke about a competitive inter-microbial interactions mediated by a bacterial protein secretion system. The format of this series is accessible for PhD students and is designed to stay broad enough that researchers from other disciplines interested in biofilms will be able to contribute to the discussion. The series will continue and will also be accessible online. It is anticipated to include academics from all different disciplines and fields working on biofilms as well as industry representatives. The series was established by Chancellors Fellow and NBIC Interdisciplinary Research Fellow, Gavin Melaugh.MICROBIOLOGY SOCIETY ANNUALINAUGRAL LIVERPOOL SHARED RESEARCH CONFERENCE FACILITIES SHOWCASEThe Microbiology Societys Annual Conference is is theThe Inaugral Liverpool Shared Research Facilities UKs largest annual gathering of microbiologists.
