b'Our Future PlansAt the time of writing this report, NBIC are awaiting the outcome of the Phase 2 funding application. Further information on our Phase 2 plans will be announced in 2023. Phase 2 will build on NBICs collective strengths as the UKs national centre to drive and expand world-class research and innovation as a global hub working with companies to create economic growth. We will work with our partnership of 63 research institutions and 250 companies established under Phase 1 to develop deeper and more strategic collaborations, focused and co-opted teams, and joint-industry programmes to address strategic priorities and deliver on shared sectoral roadmaps. NBIC will work with industry, regulators, funders and policymakers, and engage the public in a two-way dialogue to refine the research and industrial strategy agenda, shape public funding initiatives and determine strategy for industrial pre and post-competitive research. NBIC will work across its 4 strategic themes to prevent, detect, manage and engineer biofilms, capitalising on world-class underpinning research to address sectoral challenges. The mission of the NBIC skills training strategy during Phase 2 is to deliver a diverse and rewarding training programme that addresses skills gaps and equips the biofilm innovation ecosystem with the interdisciplinary research, innovation, and business skills necessary to nurture and up-skill the next generation of leaders in the UK Bioeconomy.18'
