b'Data ManagementAt NBIC, we create and consume data at unprecedent rates, which requires creating strategies to collect, organise, protect, and store our data in ways that is discoverable and available for the research community. Our data management plan, enables our researchers to deposit their data during the life cycle of their projects. We exploit the available resources provided by our library services which ultimately enables the secure storage of our data. Furthermore, with the constant support of our research management team, data and metadata are easily deposited in our institutional repository. This latter strategy enables the generation of unique digital object identifier (DOIs), which permanently identify our published and unpublished data, as well as restricted data.Knowing our data is facilitating the creation of data definitions which are incorporated in our metadata. The latter ultimately provides context to the data itself and creates a common understanding of the data produced in the biofilm research. Our next goal is to find strategies that will allow the expansion of this data management system, hence aiming to become the main entry point for the discovery of research data generated among NBICs core universities. We believe that these foundations will promote NBIC research productivity, reduce security risks, contribute to cost effectiveness of resources, and assist with accurate organisational decision-making.21'
